12 ways to reverse Exhaustion & Brain Fog
so you have the energy to run your Business and have a life
Often we put band aids on our exhaustion and brain fog instead of addressing the root causes of exhaustion through the basics of sound nutrition, daily movement and quality sleep. We turn to stimulants like coffee and sugar which only make matters worse. Yes I have been there done that!
Our liver is a workhorse in that it filters, detoxifies, metabolises, plus synthesises hormones. When we create the conditions where it is no longer burdened by toxic load from chemicals and poor nutrition it can do it’s 500+ functions. By making conscious decisions about the products you consume (or don’t consume), you will choose to create more energy on a daily basis.
Feel fabulous with the energy to serve your clients in ways that are productive and effective every day.
The chemical cocktails that we are exposed to on a daily basis are a huge contributor to fatigue and brain fog. Here are 12 simple and safe ways to detox naturally.
#1 An apple a day…
What’s your first drink of the day? If you drink a glass of filtered warm water with organic apple cider vinegar (ACV) with “the mother” you are kickstarting your detoxification pathways of the liver and large intestine.
“The mother” means the ACV is unrefined, unpasteurized and unfiltered so contains good bacteria for the gut, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes.
If you are experiencing bloating and digestive issues this could be contributing to your fatigue and brain fog. Reach out and let’s chat about what’s going on for you.
#2 Tea for you
I was horrified to read an article about the problem with deadly levels of pesticides in many big brand teas. Most of us drink black, green, white or herbal tea on a daily basis.
Choose organic tea preferably loose leaf. If you like the convenience of a tea bag ensure they use unbleached, natural fibre, staple-free tea bags.
As a conscious consumer look out for 100% recycled paperboard printed with plant-based ink.
#3 Sensational Skin
Your skin is the largest ‘organ’ in your body and one way to avoid toxin exposure is the right body wash. Steer clear of the known endocrine disruptors (like parabens and phthalates) and protect your skin from everyday stressors including wheat and gluten (yes they add it to body wash and shampoos!).
Your general supermarket is unlikely to stock something that meets these criteria so you may need to shop online or at a health shop.
One body wash that is ideal for sensitive skins is the Dessert Essence Organics fragrance free body wash. You could create your own aromatherapy body wash by adding in your favourite organic essential oil blend. Get 5% off by clicking here
#4 A healthy smile
The lining of your mouth is highly absorbent, so chemicals and toxins lurking in your toothpaste get a fast-track into your bloodstream.
Toothpaste ingredients that may be toxic include Triclosan, sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), artificial sweeteners, fluoride, and diethanolamine (DEA).
#5 Sweet smelling all day
Deodorants and antiperspirants frequently contain aluminium because of its sweat-inhibiting properties. The aluminium salts in deodorants close the pores of the skin in the underarm area, which prevents perspiration from forming.
Finding an organic deodorant that works is no easy task, so I love Lavera Fresh 24 hour deodorant because it actually works! Most importantly, you will have peace of mind knowing that you’re not exposing your lymphatic system to a single ingredient that could wreak havoc with your health.
#6 Filtered elixir
The Environmental Working Group noted that there are more than 140 contaminants in tap water. One of the keys to protect your health is to filter tap water.
A Brita water filter is a good starting point to remove toxins from tap water. While I was waiting to renovate my kitchen, I have opted for a carafe which has a 1.3L capacity with a MicroDisc filter. I appreciate the filter change reminder (approx. 150 litres or 4 weeks) and that it is BPA free and dishwasher safe.
You can get these at most retailers and can buy online directly from a Brita website.
I now have an under counter water filter from Alkaway. The Ultrastream filters water using a patented technology, so I have pure water on demand. Mention my name, Bev Roberts and get a discount on your purchase.
#7 Water on the run
Drinking plenty of water each day helps to flush out toxins and waste from the body. The other key factor is that given our brains are made up of 75% water, being well hydrated means you are less likely to have brain fog too.
We don’t want to contribute to the environmental impact by buying bottled water and it’s been proven that many brands still have contaminants in their water.
Time for a drink bottle free of harmful chemicals and BPA, BPS and other nasties? A stainless-steel water bottle is lightweight and portable plus usually they are dishwasher safe.
#8 Brush away
Did you know that your lymphatic system doesn’t have a pump to drain the toxins? Daily movement and dry skin brushing helps to stimulate blood circulation and the lymphatic system, improving toxin elimination.
Using a dry skin brush in gentle strokes from the extremities towards the heart before you shower will support the release of toxins naturally. I have one with a long handle, so I can reach my back too although not essential. This one from Eco Tools is made from environment friendly products. Get 5% off by clicking here
#9 Under pressure
A gentle or firm massage focusing on pressure points on the body helps to release the toxins trapped in your tissues. While going to a massage therapist is ideal, each night before bed you can massage your feet and hands. In addition you could use the massage oil as a body cream and rub in long upward strokes after a shower or bath.
This massage oil from Organic Fiji is a cold pressed organic coconut massage oil that is fragrance free. You could create your own aromatherapy massage oil by adding in your favourite organic essential oil blend. Get 5% off by clicking here
#10 Squeaky clean dishes without harsh chemicals
Of the 233 “hand washing detergents” listed on Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) Healthy Cleaning Database, only 15% scored an A. This is because there are potentially significant hazards to human health and the planet from toxic chemicals.
However even when you choose an A rated dishwashing liquid be sure to always rinse your crockery and cutlery before drying. You don’t want to be eating soap!
This fragrance-free dish washing liquid by Attitude is very gentle, does not irritate the skin and does its job cleaning the dishes yet is safe for babies bottles and teats. Get 5% off by clicking here
#11 Watch what you spray
Household cleaners are notorious for having an array of toxic chemicals which you inhale, and these then circulate in the body causing harm. One place in the home people feel compelled to use a heavy-duty cleaner is in the bathroom.
Did you know that most bathroom cleaners actually bleach mould not kill it? I use a 20% solution of white vinegar in water to kill mould spores especially in the shower.
